I do not like the food you make,
I do not like the Ham or the Beef.
I will not eat,
I will not eat potatoes today
because I ate them yesterday.
I do not like them as you say,
Today I will not go on your food foray.
I will not eat the veggies or the fruit.
I will chew on the lace from a boot.
I will eat the cat food from the bowl,
and the play-doh from the floor.
But I will not eat the things you put on a plate,
I know we will sit at this table, very late.
And you will keep throwing food at me like bait.
But I don’t like any food today.
We have pudding?
Chocolate or vanilla?
I’ll eat that.
I will eat the chocolate and smear it on the wall,
I will smear it here and far.
You really are the best cook of all.
Today is a man’s birthday who inspired me. His books taught rhymes without reason. His imagination soared. Every time, as a child, when I visited my pediatrician there was always a Dr. Seuss book.
Happy Birthday, Theodor Seuss Geisel.
Thank you for the words you left the world. Thank you for your imagination.
